Introducing my new project entitled ‘Riders of the Indian Railways’.

First established in the mid-nineteenth century, passenger trains are the primary mode of transportation in India. The government-run system provides an essential service, transporting approximately 23 million travelers daily – roughly the population of Taiwan.

The riders of the Indian Railways echo the vast economic, cultural and religious diversity of the country.

Watching the train cars fill with families, commuters and tourists, one can only speculate who they are, where they have been, and where they are going.

While there is not enough time to learn each story, there is time to freeze a moment or capture a gesture to make an image that reveals part of the individual’s storyline or creates one for the viewer.

All aboard!!
