Completed around 1895, the Teatro Tomas Terry was named for a local sugar baron. Constructed of Cuban hardwoods, the over 900-seat auditorium is embellished with Carrara marble, hand-carvings and colorful frescoes. Interestingly, the theatre floor can be raised to stage level to create a grand ballroom. Performances have ranged from symphony to salsa. Past performers include Enrico Caruso, Anna Pavlova, Sarah Bernhardt, and the Bolshoi Ballet.
